Susan and I went whale watching today! We went in a commercial boat out of San Francisco’s Pier 39, and it took us all the way over to the Farallone Islands and then back – about a six-hour roundtrip. The weather was perfect and ocean was rather calm, so seasickness was not a problem.
Since it wasn’t whale migration season, we didn’t see many whales. In fact, I think I only saw one. But I did get a photo of its tail as it was diving.
We transited several of the Farallone Islands and were wowed by some of the big waves that crashed onto the rocks.
Once we got back inside the bay, we saw several sailboat races in progress.
- The fluke of a juvenile gray whale.
- Big waves crash into the Farallone Islands as a cormorant does a fly-by,
- Racing sailboats fly their spinnakers.
